Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies, Sun Yat-sen University (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) is among the first batch of National High-End Think Tanks pilot institutions.

Founded in 2015, based on the Center for Studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, Sun Yat-sen University (Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities) and the Collaborative Innovation Center for the Cooperation and Development of Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China, the Institute has integrated its leading disciplines such as economics, politics, law, sociology, public management, and journalism & communication and has become a professional, high-end think tank in the field of Hong Kong-Macao governance and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation and development.

The Institute practices the system of the dean responsibility under the leadership of the council.

The Institute consists of the Center for Studies of Basic Laws of Hong Kong and Macao, Sun Yat-sen University, the Center for Studies of Hong Kong and Macao Political and Public Governance, the Center for Hong Kong and Macao Economic Studies, the Center for Hong Kong and Macao Social Studies, the Center for Studies of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Communication, the Center for the Studies of “Belt and Road Initiative” and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao International Cooperation. In addition, relying on the Institute, more centers and institutions were established, such as the Center for Studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, Sun Yat-sen University, the Institute of Free Trade Zones, and the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Big Data Analysis and Simulation on Public Opinion.

The Institute has achieved outstanding decision-making research results to serve the major decision-making needs of the Party and government by focusing on major issues such as the development trends and governance of Hong Kong and Macao, and the cooperation and development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.

As a high-end think tank built by Sun Yat-sen University, the Institute provides modern working conditions and a favorable scientific research environment.

The subordinate Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Archives Center is currently one of the most comprehensive and systematic special libraries in the country with collections of Hong Kong and Macao documents.

The Archives Center is in possession of more than 22,180 volumes of research findings, publications, and documents on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao studies, more than 5,000 back issues in Chinese and English, and 173 current issues in Chinese and English. Moreover, it is equipped with an integrated library automation system for small libraries.

🐟The subordinate Data Platform for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Studies owns multiple thematic tracking databases on themes concerning the economic and social studies of Hong Kong and Macao.
